Posted on 16th April, 2016
It’s about now that you start thinking about your hay fever regime, and that is because you want to start to prepare the mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract for the pollens etc. There are a few different tacts we would take, working with herbal medicines, to deal with hay fever. These are:
- Protect and tone the mucous membranes
- Reduce allergic tendency
- Sooth and reduce inflammation of mucous membranes
- Reduce catarrh production
- Reduce general systemic toxicity
These are general considerations, if getting a prescription it would be tailored to your needs but I can describe some of the ways you can use things that are growing in your garden, or you can get from the shops, that might help you control your symptoms to some degree.
Honey:- take a spoonful of a local honey for several weeks prior to and during hay fever season to desensitize you to the pollen in your area.
Decongesting the respiratory system:- add a spoonful of vinegar to a glass of water and sip throughout the day.
Anti histamine action=clove tea:- (take 2/3 cloves and soak in boiled water for 5 mins before drinking)
Chamomile essential oil:- can be used as anti-histamine, use a few drops in a steam inhalation to have an anti-allergenic effect.
Nettle leaves:- gather fresh nettle leaves (not from the roadside), wash them, and make a tea with them for an anti-allergenic effect and to help reduce catarrh.
