Let’s be honest girls, we’ve all come home from a night out and – once or twice, perhaps more – gone straight to bed without taking our makeup off. Or quickly used a wipe to remove the worst of it. Well, why not? Wipes are a quick, easy and effective way to remove makeup…but are they really good to your skin?
Though makeup wipes may seem harmless enough, they can actually damage your skin. Wipes contain preservatives to keep them fresh, however these are not necessarily good for the skin, especially when left there without rinsing the face.
Makeup wipes cannot fully penetrate pores to clear all excess oil and dirt. They smear residue across the face, without completely removing it. This can lead to further blocked pores and an uneven complexion.
Alcohol is often found in makeup wipes, to allow for quicker evapouration from the skin. Unfortunately, alcohol dehydrates skin and can leave the face dry and irritated.
Instead of using wipes, you should try to create skincare routine to follow. There are several different skin types: oily, dry, sensitive or a combination of types. Finding the right products to use can be difficult if you’re not familiar with your skin type. If you know your skin type, you can find products specific to your needs. A decent cleanser, toner, exfoliator and moisturiser should be in everyone’s bathroom cabinet!
