The Importance of Fruit and Veg
Posted on 26th March, 2016
Having 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day is of key importance in a healthy, balanced diet. The World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations launched a joint initiative in 2003 to promote the consumption of more fruit and vegetables worldwide.
There are many reasons as to why fruit and veg can benefit a person’s health:
- Full of nutrients and vitamins which promote growth and support the immune system
- Significantly reduced risks of heart disease, cancer and strokes
- Help maintain a healthy digestive system
- Contribute to a healthy, balanced diet
There are simple ways that fruit and vegetables can be incorporated into your diet.
Simply adding some fruit to a bowl of breakfast in the morning can help you get more into your diet.
Many fruits and vegetables taste delicious and can be blended into smoothies, helping increase intake for younger children who perhaps dislike eating fruit and veg.
